USYS, US Club Soccer and AYSO

US Youth Soccer (USYS)

  • Structure: Organized through state associations (like North Dakota Soccer Association). Each state runs its own leagues, tournaments, and player registration.
  • Focus: Development through structured competition — local leagues, State Cups, Regionals, and Nationals.
  • Governance: Rules and fees vary by state, but all follow national standards under the U.S. Soccer Federation.

US Club Soccer

  • Structure: Clubs register directly with US Club Soccer at the national level — no state associations.
  • Focus: Flexibility and autonomy. Clubs manage their own rosters, schedules, and player movement.
  • Governance: Nationally standardized registration and insurance; clubs have more control over how they operate.

AYSO (American Youth Soccer Organization)

  • Structure: Community‑based, volunteer‑driven organization focused on recreational and developmental soccer.
  • Focus: Fun, inclusion, and participation — every child plays, regardless of skill level.
  • Governance: Local regions run their own programs under AYSO’s national framework.

What does Bricks Soccer use?

  • Bricks soccer uses USYS. Why? USYS offers local support with many of the State Association being prominent soccer figures in the Bismarck/Mandan community. We also use USYS because we are the only club in the Bismarck/Mandan that uses USYS. This is important in case players want to transfer clubs with-in the club season. (A club season runs from August 1st - July 31st the following year.)
